Michelle is dually certified as a Psych/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and family Practice Nurse Practitioner. She graduated from Saint Olaf College in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Nursing and worked as a hospital nurse for several years. After completing a Master’s of Science degree at the University of Minnesota in 2002, she practiced Family and Adult medicine for several years before developing an interest in Psychiatry. She then completed a post-master’s certification in Psych/Mental Health at the University of Minnesota in 2013 and has practiced in a variety of mental health settings since. In addition to working in general psychiatry and impatient and outpatient geriatric settings, she has worked in Chemical Dependency and is certified in Addiction Psychiatry as a subspecialty.
Michelle has used her nursing skills as a volunteer on several medical mission trips to Central America. She worked as part of a team that provided cancer screening and treatment to women in Nicaragua on a large scale for more than ten years.
Michelle’s philosophy of patient care centers around education as a means to support patients and their families.
