The Orr Memory and Geriatric Behavioral Clinic is a specialty service for people who are experiencing memory loss and related behavioral changes. Many of our patients also experience problems with mood or anxiety. Evaluations involve family/caregivers as well.

Patient scheduled for an evaluation are expected to:

  • Fill out and send in a new patient database prior to the first appointment (downloadable PDF or clinic can send out)
  • Cooperate/facilitate with obtaining past medical records prior to first appointment (downloadable PDF release of information forms)
  • Bring a current list of medications (may bring actual bottles)
  • Bring family/caregiver to appointment

WILLIAM B. ORR, Ph.D., M.D.

Dr. Orr is a neuroscientist and geriatric psychiatrist. He earned his Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh and then his M.D. at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. He completed is specialty training in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and for more than 10 years was Director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Program at the University of Minnesota and VA Medical Center in Minneapolis. He continues as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. He is also board certified in forensic psychiatrist, maintains a private forensic psychiatry practice, and is Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry and Law at William Mitchell School of Law.

Dr. Orr manages patients with dementia in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He is founder and director of the Orr Memory and Geriatric Behavioral Clinic in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, as well as Director of two acute inpatient geriatric behavioral units: the Grace Unit at Regina Medical Center in Hastings, Minnesota, and the Senior Behavioral Unit at Mille Lacs Health Center in Onamia, Minnesota. Dr. Orr also is consultant to various long-term care groups who provide assessment in assisted living and skilled nursing centers around the state. His primary clinical interests are in early detection of dementia, differentiation from depression and in the elderly and management of agitation.
